About the artist Jojo
Original, daring and innovative are key words reflecting artist, Jojo's (Yosef Ohayon , 57) world. Daring and self-expression are the name of the game and each creation brings a fresh surprise.
While focusing on his artistic work far from city centers and contemporary fashion dictates, Jojo, who lives and works at Moshav Ein Tamar close to the Dead Sea coast, succeeds in creating three-dimensional creations from iron that are surprising in their original vitality. Jojo has developed innovative production and design techniques for his range of artistic objects, assisted by the experience and work tradition that he had acquired from his father already in Casablanca, his birthplace.
The JOJO Gallery in downtown Tel Aviv features an amazing selection of original creations that are characterized by neat aristocratic lines with wild textures and an infinite gamut of shades and colors, unique abstract paintings, furniture diversified using special techniques (water pressure for inflating iron), tall iron vases and delicately lined wall sculptures with touches of soft colors.
At the gallery, we specialize in customizing items to customer needs and, as a family concern, are especially proud of the personal attention and professional solutions that we offer - All items are available in any color and dimensions can be adapted.
While at first glance this is not always distinguishable, all of Jojo's design items are made from different metals, moistly iron or stainless steel. Lightly tapping a creation, or a more in-depth look at the conspicuous welding lines, expose its secrets. After the assembly and welding stage, the works undergo a painting process in a kiln using semi-transparent color powders that Jojo imports especially from Italy.
While the armchairs are produced using many unique methods, indubitably, the most interesting technique of all, is that of inflating with water pressure. Jojo, who was a farmer in the past at Moshav Ein Tamar, has taken advantage of his technical skills for constructing machines for sorting and washing melons. A metal tank that contained a large volume of water did not withstand the pressure and swelled into the shape of a large metal "cushion." Thus, what commenced as a hitch in the manufacture of an agricultural machine became the artist's unique and inventive technique.
